Diabetic Education

What is Diabetes?
Diabetes is a disease in which your body is unable to properly use and store glucose (a form of sugar). Glucose backs up in the bloodstream causing your blood glucose or "sugar" to rise too high.

An estimated 16 million Americans have diabetes, and about one-third of them are unaware of it. About 1,700 new cases are diagnosed every day in the U.S. The seventh leading cause of death among Americans, diabetes is the leading cause of new cases of blindness, kidney failure, and lower extremity amputations.

There is an awful lot of information that people with diabetes need to have to manage their disease. There are certain skills and knowledge that all people with diabetes should have in order to achieve better management of their disease and reduce the risk of complications.

The Diabetes Education Classes at Desert Valley Medical Group provides each participant with the opportunity to achieve these skills and knowledge whether on a one on one teaching or a group setting.

Perhaps more astonishing is the realization that this miracle of science may be brought about by any of us, anywhere, using only our hands, our lung, and our brains.
